Chief Executive Officer

Broward Health Medical Center and Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital

A seasoned healthcare professional with more than 25 years of experience leading large hospitals, Jonathan Turton joined Broward Health Medical Center in September 2018 as chief executive officer. In this role, he oversees the overall administration and management of the 716-bed acute care hospital, trauma center and related operations.

Prior to joining Broward Health, Turton held senior positions at the Tenet Health-owned Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, including chief operating officer and most recently chief executive officer. As CEO, he led the 623 licensed-bed acute care hospital to maintain a 13 percent operating margin over three years, driving quality improvement in cardiovascular, nephrology and geriatric service lines. Turton also served as vice president of clinical services and vice president of outpatient services at St. Joseph Health System in Bryan, Texas.

Turton holds a Bachelor of Science in Curriculum & Instruction and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Early in his career, Turton completed a Creating Healthier Communities Fellowship and has also participated in or led numerous medical mission trips to Guatemala. Jon serves on the Texas A&M MHA Advisory Program and mentors several early careerists. His wife, Kendall is a hospital executive in San Antonio and their two sons, Ryan and Colby both work in Texas where their family also maintains a ranch.

What motivated you to join ACHE?
I’ve been a member of ACHE for most of my career. Initially, I joined ACHE for career development, educational opportunities and the access to a network of healthcare professionals. I have remained a loyal member of ACHE because it is truly the preeminent professional society for healthcare leaders. It is the place where healthcare leaders learn about the industry and innovate on how to improve the health status in the communities that we serve.

How has your membership in ACHE helped you professionally?
ACHE has helped me hone my leadership skills and given me access to relevant and timely industry information. ACHE has afforded me the opportunity to be a part of an amazing network of dedicated healthcare professionals and a way to share best practices and learn about how we can improve outcomes while redesigning our systems that reduce cost and variation.
